Professor Helen Moewaka Barnes (Te Kapotai, Ngāpuhi) is Co-director of the SHORE Whariki Research Centre, College of Health, Massey University.
Helen is a multidisciplinary social scientist, with expertise in theory development, quantitative and qualitative methods, research design, and project management. She has particular expertise in the fields of Māori health, Māori methods and methodologies, research ethics and tikanga, community engagement and Māori research capacity building. Helen’s research areas currently include wairua/spirit, natural environments and health, life-course approaches to health and wellbeing, health promotion, health services research, identity and culture, sexuality, parent and child health, whanau ora and growing Māori and Pacific research capacity and research use.
Helen is Chair of the Kahui Tuturu for A Better Start National Science Challenge and co-theme leader, Te Tai Ao, Ngā Pae o te Maramatanga Māori Centre of Research Excellence.
